Why Not to Go for DIY Website Builders Like Wix and Squarespace
For a new business owner looking to get your business online, you might have heard about probably heard about web design or DIY website builders like Wix and Squarespace. They do sound very easy to use and attractive with claims of being able to have a decent looking website in virtually no time and at no cost.
Well if you are looking for a free website, of course there is hard to beat this deal. But this is not really what most new and small businesses want. They want, and need, a presence on the web that can be used to attract new customers, better sales, more brand awareness, and of course resulting in increased profits. This is where DIY site builders like Wix and Squarespace fall short due to some serious flaws inherent in them.
Websites built with DIY builders may be functional but they are definitely not unique. They do have hundreds of templates to choose your design from, but at the end of the day they are just templates. And since most top-rated website builders have millions of users, it is very unlikely that you will be having a unique design for your website. Every business deserves to have its own unique branding and identity, which a professional web designer can help customize for you.
A free package will limit the amount of impactful SEO that you might be able to do on your website. Nevertheless, it will be virtually impossible to optimize a website using a DIY builder as compared to a website designed by a professional. Good website optimization and SEO is very important if you want your website to be among the top searchers on Google and also the other major search engines. Generally, sites built with DIY builders like Wix and Squarespace do not rank as well on the search engines as compared to those produced by the professionals.
Unprofessional URLs and Advertisements:
Unless you will be upgrading to obtain your own domain name, you will be stuck with a homepage like www.wix.com/companyname, which will appear very unprofessional. The DIY website builders may also have advertisements on your webpages if you are opting for the free plans, which again will not look good for your business.
Absence of Professional Advice:
This can arguably be the biggest drawback for using DIY website builders like Wix and Squarespace. Even though you may be getting some of the basic technical support and help from the DIY builders, you will be unable to approach anyone for professional marketing advice and help. A professional or a team of professionals can help you with branding and positioning of your business, getting your marketing message across, developing a strategy for social media, and other related things.
Since you want your business to grow, you would not want to compromise at this stage of growth. By spending a few dollars more, you can give a real impetus to your business, which will surely pay you back handsomely over the long run.
